The Joffrey San Francisco Summer Intensive, led by Artistic Director Josie Walsh, immerses dancers in the worlds of contemporary ballet and concert dance while encouraging them to move beyond the boundaries of purely classical form. Through a strong technical foundation and expansive contemporary training, students develop versatility, artistry, freedom of movement, and a deeper understanding of the evolving language of ballet.

Students train in a full-day intensive environment designed to build technique, artistry, versatility, and professional training habits. A typical day begins with classes in the morning, followed by an approximately 30–45 minute lunch break, with short 5–15 minute breaks between classes. Training then continues through the late afternoon or early evening with additional classes, specialty training, and/or rehearsals.
The curriculum may include Classical Ballet Technique, Contemporary Ballet, Pointe, Contemporary Partnering, Contemporary Dance, Modern, Improvisation/Composition, and Pilates & Conditioning. Please note that certain classes may be offered only to select levels based on age, placement, and experience. Registered students will receive an exact schedule the week before the intensive start date.

Dancers are assigned to training groups based on their audition and age and may be additionally evaluated during the first day of classes.
Studio assignments are determined by program scheduling, group placement, and enrollment. Requests for a particular studio location cannot be accommodated.
For students registered for housing, residence hall assignments are made based on several factors, which may include age, sex, gender identification, program selection, dates of attendance, and available space. Requests for specific dorm building assignments cannot be guaranteed.
