The JoffreyRED Contemporary Ballet Summer Intensive, led by Artistic Director Josie Walsh and presented in partnership with BalletRED Contemporary Ballet Company, offers dancers an immersive training experience that unites classical ballet with contemporary movement and concert dance. Through rigorous technical training and expansive artistic exploration, students strengthen their classical foundation while developing the versatility, creativity, and performance quality required of today’s contemporary ballet dancer.

A Ballet audition is required for admission to this intensive. Students may audition in person or digitally. Students must be 10 years old by June 7th, 2027 to audition and be accepted for this program.
Students do not need to attend a separate audition for every Summer Intensive they are interested in. By completing a Ballet audition, dancers are automatically considered for all Summer Intensives within the Ballet audition style for which they meet the stated age requirements.

Students train in a full-day intensive environment designed to build technique, artistry, versatility, and professional training habits. A typical day begins with classes in the morning, followed by an approximately 30–45 minute lunch break, with short 5–15 minute breaks between classes. Training then continues through the late afternoon or early evening with additional classes, specialty training, and/or rehearsals.
The curriculum may include Classical Ballet Technique, Contemporary Ballet, Pointe, Contemporary Dance, Modern, Contemporary Partnering, Improvisation/Composition, and Ballroom. Please note that certain classes may be offered only to select levels based on age, placement, and experience. Registered students will receive an exact schedule the week before the intensive start date.

Dancers are assigned to training groups based on their audition and age and may be additionally evaluated during the first day of classes.
Studio assignments are determined by program scheduling, group placement, and enrollment. Requests for a particular studio location cannot be accommodated.
For students registered for housing, residence hall assignments are made based on several factors, which may include age, gender, program selection, dates of attendance, and ava
