Absolute Beginner Ballet Series

Ballet begins here.

Workshop Overview

INSTRUCTOR: Annastasia Mercedes

RATE: 6 SESSIONS, $250

ABOUT: Joffrey Ballet School’s Absolute Beginner Ballet Series offers adults a welcoming, structured pathway into ballet through three seasonal sessions each year: Winter, Spring, and Summer. Led by Annastasia Mercedes, the series is designed for adults who are new to ballet or ready to build on an emerging foundation in a supportive, community-centered environment.

Level A: Fundamentals

An introductory six-class workshop for adults with little to no prior ballet experience. Students are guided through the foundational elements of ballet, including basic positions, core exercises, introductory terminology, posture, alignment, and classroom etiquette.

Level B: Decoding

A beginner-level six-class workshop for adults with foundational ballet experience who are ready to deepen their understanding of technique. Students continue building coordination, confidence, vocabulary, and clarity within a supportive and progressive class setting. With strong instruction and a warm studio culture, the AB Series helps adult beginners start with confidence and continue with intention.

Registration is required for this workshop as this is a series of 6 classes, not single drop-in classes. Consistent attendance is important, as each class will build upon the previous concepts studied. Students cannot miss more than 1/4 of the workshop series. (Recommended for beginners).

SESSION DATES: WINTER SESSION

Level A: Fundamentals
SECTION I: Tuesdays, 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM, 9/1/2026 - 10/6/2026
SECTION II: Wednesdays, 7:00 PM - 8:45 PM, 9/2/2026 - 9/30/2026

Level B: Decoding

*Registration opens July 15th.

WORKSHOP FAQs

WHICH LEVEL IS RIGHT FOR YOU?
Level A: Fundamentals
Best for adults with little to no prior ballet experience. This is the ideal starting point for students who are brand new to ballet and want a welcoming introduction to class structure, vocabulary, technique, and studio etiquette.

Level B: Decoding
Best for adults with foundational ballet experience. This level is designed for students who are ready to build on the basics and deepen their understanding of ballet technique, coordination, terminology, and classroom confidence.

Do I need prior experience to join Level A?
No. Level A is designed specifically for adults with little to no prior ballet experience.

Can I register for Level B without taking Level A first?
Yes, if you already have foundational ballet experience and feel comfortable with basic vocabulary and class structure.

Can I drop into one class only?
No. These workshops are progressive six-class series, so registration is required for the full session.

How many classes can I miss?
Because each class builds on the previous one, participants may not miss more than 25% of the workshop series.

Registration opensJuly 15th
