Classes are offered Monday – Friday. Dancers can register for one, two or three weeks.

There will be a virtual orientation for students and parents as well as an in person orientation on the first day of classes.

Schedules will be posted on the website and group assignments will be emailed no later than July 8, 2024.

Joffrey Ballet School is committed to providing an inclusive environment for all students. Gender nonconforming students, students with religious and cultural considerations and any student needing additional support is welcome to contact us to discuss the dress code. Please contact our Customer Support department with any dress code questions and/or concerns.

• Ballet, Musical Theater, Jazz, Contemporary, Hip Hop. Examples include: 
  • Upperbody: Colored leotards, t-shirts permissible. 
  • Lower Body: Jazz pants, shorts, skirts, black tights, or fishnet tights. 
  • Shoes include; ballet flats, jazz flats, jazz heels, jazz sneakers, character heels, turners, dance socks, and dance sneakers. 
  • Form fitting clothing and shoes that would be appropriate for auditioning in that style is the best way to lean for each of the classes. We recommend comfortable, breathable workout clothes that allow a full range of movement, like yoga or dancewear. General appearance should be tidy.
• Jewelry, jeans, buttons and zippers are prohibited for the safety of each dancer.
• Clothes should be tight fitting. No baggy/sloppy clothes are permitted.
• Students will not be allowed to be in their street clothes for classes.
• Long hair should be pulled back out of the face.

Students attending week 1 and week 3 will be assigned to a Cirque du Soleil production. Students will focus on elements and have exclusive interaction and access with the performers from the show. A showing will take place on Friday and students will also attend their assigned Cirque show during the week. 

Students DO NOT need to purchase tickets. Family and friends are allowed to purchase tickets to the show that their student is attending. More information about tickets and chaperones will be announced soon.

Students attending week 2 will participate in the Gerald Arpino Tribute. Due to the larger scale production and additional rehearsals, students attending this week will not be assigned to attend a Cirque du Soleil show.

All students will participate in an informal showing at the end of week 1. More information about the performance will be announced closer to the intensive.

Week 2 will culminate in a spectacular stage showcase, where participants will present a fusion of commercial and concert dance to a live audience. This showcase celebrates individual growth and showcases the program’s commitment to bridging the gap between these two influential dance genres.

Joffrey Las Vegas Jazz and Contemporary 2024 invites you to join a dance experience that honors tradition while embracing innovation. In the spirit of Gerald Arpino, let us break barriers and explore the limitless possibilities where commercial and concert dance converge.

No parents, guardians or visitors are allowed to be in the building. All students must be dropped off outside, in front of the building entrance.

A completed physical or physician’s note from within the last 12 months is required and should be completed before a dancer begins their selected intensive. If you have a completed physical examination for your dancer from within the last calendar year, you can substitute it in place of the Doctor’s note. The letter must state that the dancer is healthy and physically able to participate in the summer program. This form will be submitted at the student’s program orientation. Las Vegas programs provide meals (breakfast and dinner) for students staying in housing. Lunch is not provided. Students may purchase food daily, have food delivered, or bring/prepare their own food.

We recommend that students pack a healthy lunch and snacks to eat between meals. A cooler bag is suggested for any perishable items. Due to severe food allergies, dancers are not permitted to pack anything with nuts (or nut products) in their lunch. Students will go on a grocery run every Sunday to get groceries for the next week.

Parents are also welcome to drop off meals for their students at the studio.

Joffrey Ballet School offers housing and a required meal plan for the Cirque Arts Intensive.

The Administrative team consists of Summer Coordinators and a group of Administrative Assistants who work with the Artistic Directors at the studios. The team facilitates daily operations and handles crises or emergencies should they arise.

All of our summer interns take part in a robust selection process that includes a formal application, one-on-one interviews, group evaluations and background checks. Most of our interns are currently attending university or have graduated. All candidates must have a dance background or share an appreciation for performing arts.

Typically, classes are held from 8-5 / 9-6 daily, Monday-Friday only. PLEASE NOTE: Additional rehearsals may be scheduled during performance week and may extend a dancer’s day. (If you are commuting, you can expect your class schedule to begin between 8:30am and 10:30 in the morning.)

Schedules for our intensives are made available the week prior to the program start date. Schedules are posted on the Joffrey website and will be updated every Sunday for the upcoming week. Schedules can be viewed online, and will also be handed out during orientation.

Housing is available for students 12 years and older.

The Residence Hall at University of Nevada, Las Vegas is conveniently located by the airport and is only a short drive from the studios and the famous Las Vegas strip. Our live-in Housing staff are available to students and parents 24 hours a day and assist by providing support and guidance at the dorm and studio. Students can sign up for an escort to and from the studio.

CHECK OUT
Students must check out of the dorm before they leave for classes on the Friday of their last week.

Joffrey will provide storage for students who would like to pick up their belongings after classes. All belongings must be picked up on Friday. Housing students are required to schedule a check out time and will be required to move out during that time. Dancers staying at the dorm for multiple weeks do not have to check out during the weekends.

The students will have scheduled meeting times each morning to meet to travel together to the studios. They will also have a scheduled travel group to return to the housing locations for evening check in. Transportation will be provided and escorted by the Joffrey Housing team

Students may request roommates under the following conditions: Roommates must reside in housing for the same period of time and must attend the same intensive. Roommate Requests are $100 per dancer. Please note that although we will make every effort to accommodate requests, it might not always be possible.If we are unable to honor a request, the resident will receive a credit towards their tuition.

The Meal Plan is required for dancers staying in housing. Students will dine on campus in the cafeteria.

Sundays – Saturdays: Breakfast & Dinner

• Cleaning supplies: Disinfectant/sanitizing/cleaning products, wipes, paper towels, broom, trash bags, laundry detergent, etc.
• Bedding: Twin XL sheets, blankets, pillows, pillowcases, mattress toppers, mattress pad, etc.
• Bathroom essentials and toiletries. JBS does not provide toilet paper.
• Electronics: laptops, tablets, chargers, etc. JBS does not provide cable.
• Storage: Hangers, hanging/floor shoe rack, storage containers, tupperware, etc.
• Cell Phone (Required): All housing students are required to have a phone with a United States phone number. International students may choose to purchase a “pay as you go” package or turn on their roaming feature.

Joffrey Ballet School does not offer Airport Transportation for this intensive.

The Residence Life Department team consists of a group of live-in Resident Advisors (RAs) who rotate duty shifts. The RA on duty can be reached 24/7. The team facilitates daily operations and handles crises or emergencies should they arise. RAs are also available to take students (17 and younger) to the doctor, conduct rounds to ensure health and safety. Our team meets with students to conduct mediations, conflict resolution meetings, friendship introductions and any other situation that students need assistance with.
