Sydney Burtis, originally from Central Florida, is an international performer, choreographer, and educator based in NYC. In 2017, Sydney was recognized as one of “Tap’s Next Generation” in Dance Spirit Magazine, and was featured on the October 2018 cover. Some credits include, The Billy Elliot National Broadway Tour, SYTYCD, The YoungArts Gala at the MET and Little Island. Sydney has performed with Dorrance Dance, Sarah Reich, Max Pollak, Lisa LaTouche, Kaz Kumagai, and Demi Remick at venues such as 92NY, NY City Center, Symphony Space, Judson’s Live, NuBlu, and more.
As a choreographer, Sydney is a 2025 A.C.E. Awards finalist, a 2025 DEC Choreographers Cup finalist, and has had the honor of presenting works throughout NYC at Choreographer’s Carnival, Battery Dance Fest, Steps Beyond Foundation, Arts On Site, and Rhythm in Motion. Her passion for storytelling through movement is the drive behind her tap company “Elements of Sound” which she founded in 2022.
Sydney is an inspiring teacher whose positive energy and love of tap dance overflows onto her students. She travels throughout the U.S. and abroad as a guest teacher and choreographer for numerous dance studios, tap festivals, and intensives. Sydney is on faculty at Steps on Broadway and Broadway Dance Center, and is a guest teacher for Dance Masters of America, Joffrey Ballet School, Sarah Reich’s Tap Music Project, Adrenaline and Revive Dance Conventions, and Florida Dance Masters.
Sydney is a 2017 YoungArts Silver Award Winner, a 2018 Presidential Scholar in the Arts semi-finalist, co-founder of the Orlando Tap Festival and an alumnus of The Jacob’s Pillow Tap Program and Pace University NYC. She has been mentored by Michelle Dorrance, Sarah Reich, Anthony Morigerato, and Danny Wallace.
