Lana Fuqua is a dancer, arts manager, and arts activist from Alabama, whose role at JBS focuses on the cultivation of a safe, fun, and holistic dance education for our youngest population. Lana serves as the Administrative Director for the Children’s & Youth Ballet Programs, in addition to Program Director for the Children’s Dance Camp, Joffrey NY Ballet, Tap, and Miami summer intensives. She is a summa cum laude graduate of The University of Alabama, earning degrees in Dance and Communication Studies with Honors. Throughout her academic and professional ventures, she has received various awards, including the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Premiere Award, Dean’s Merit Award, Lou Wall Award, and New York State Assembly Citation.

As a performing artist, Lana trained and performed with Alabama Dance Works, Southeast Alabama Community Theatre, American Musical & Dramatic Academy, Yonder Contemporary Dance Company, Alabama Repertory Dance Theatre, and Dance Alabama!. Outside of Joffrey, she currently partners with Chutzpah Dance as a Company Member, and BodyStories: Teresa Fellion Dance as an Associate.

Lana’s experience in the arts spans the Southeast United States, working with institutions such as Atlanta Ballet Centre for Dance Education to develop and coordinate their dance programming, as well as engaging with the community through programs such as Alabama Dance Works (formerly Patti Rutland Jazz) BEYONDance Outreach Program.

Lana is dedicated to providing equitable and accessible dance opportunities and mentorship to diverse populations and continues her work in DEI initiatives within the arts. In her work with Joffrey, she also manages the Arts in Education Outreach program, alongside Artistic Director Jennifer Howard. Partnering with schools across Manhattan, Queens, and Brooklyn, she is proud to have received funding from the Ford Foundation and Lower Manhattan Cultural Council to further the mission of ensuring all children in New York City receive equal access to quality dance training.
