David Alpert is an award-winning New York City based director whose work has been applauded by both the New York Times and The New Yorker.  Selected directing credits include The Apple Boys by Ben Bonemma & Jonothon Lyons (Bucks County Playhouse, HERE Arts), All Shook Up (MacHayden Theater), Our Brother’s Son (The Linney at Signature Theater Off-Broadway), A Scythe of Time (June Havoc Theatre/NYMF), Fully Committed (Saugatuck Center for the Arts, Wilde Award Winner for Best Director), It’s Only a Play (Farmers Alley Theatre), Runway Princess by Kate Reinders & Paul Gordon (Muskegon Civic Theatre), as well as Tony Award-winner Idina Menzel’s “A Season of Love Tour” which played at Carnegie Hall, as well as the “Take Me or Leave Me Tour” which toured the country.

David was the founding Artistic Director of BroadwayCon, is on the Board of the Broadway Green Alliance (and directs their annual “Broadway Celebrates Earth Day Concert” in Times Square), has taught for NYU Steinhardt, IAMT, & more; has directed theatrical events with the Dramatist Guild Foundation, American Express & Amazon; and frequently collaborates with Tony Award-winner Idina Menzel (and can be seen on Disney+ in Idina’s “Which Way to the Stage” documentary).  He is the voice and creator of the popular “E-Ticket to Broadway” podcast which features Broadway stars sharing their love of the Disney Theme Parks.  He’s currently writing a new play: The Darlings.

On Broadway he served as the Associate Director on If/Then (written by the Pulitzer Prize winning team of Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey, directed by Michael Greif),  the Tony-Award winning production of The Trip to Bountiful starring Cicely Tyson & Vanessa Williams (also at the Center Theatre Group in Los Angeles), and assisted on The Best Man starring James Earl Jones, Angela Lansbury, Candice Bergen, John Larroquette, Eric McCormack, and John Stamos, as well as the revival of Guys & Dolls.

David is a member of SDC, and graduated summa cum laude from Western Michigan University with a BA in Theatre Studies (Directing).  Upon graduation he was awarded both of the Department’s top honors: the Presidential Scholar, and the Conspicuous Achievement in Theatre Award, and in 2016 was selected as a Distinguished Alumni of the University.
