Job Description

The Social Media & Marketing Intern will support the Joffrey Ballet School Marketing Department in engaging our communities across all social media channels, including Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok. The internship will provide hands-on experience in conceptualizing, creating, and publishing daily content that showcases what happens, in and out of the studios, at our worldwide summer intensives. A successful candidate will have an interest in curating content, through photos and videos, that align with our best social media practices, analytics, and brand priorities.

Candidates will be hired locally for each of our summer intensive locations New York City (New York), Los Angeles (California), San Francisco (California), Boulder (Colorado), Athens (Georgia), Miami (Florida), Las Vegas (Nevada), Dallas (Texas), Comacchio (Italy).

Qualifications, Requirements & Competencies

Minimum qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent/GED

Preferred qualifications include

  • Applicants who have obtained or are actively pursuing a BFA or BA degree, with an interest in dance and marketing.
  • Interest and experience in photography and videography.
  • Ability to write engaging copy, directed towards our target audiences of young dancers and dance parents.
  • Knowledge of social media management and content creation.
  • Passion for the arts and education.
  • A background in dance. Knowledge and interest in multiple styles is a plus.
  • Eagerness to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Owning and operating a DSLR camera is a plus, but not required.

Minimum requirements

  • 18 or older and permitted to work in the United States (excluding Italy Intensive)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English. 
  • Work well in a team to effectively build community.
  • Demonstrate sound project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Effectively interpret and follow policies and procedures.
  • Comply with directions and instructions from supervisors.
  • Provide equal and fair treatment for all.
  • Must be able to work long hours daily and heavy work weeks.

Responsibilities:

In addition to the list below, other duties will be assigned as needed by the Marketing Director, Creative Director, Marketing Coordinator, or Associate Marketing Coordinator. Interns must be adaptable as role responsibilities may shift.

  • Assist in generating content that can be shared on the main Joffrey Ballet School platform, as well as any associated platforms tied to a particular intensive.
  • Capture a variety of dynamic content in the studios, including horizontal and vertical photos and videos.
  • Ensure captured content is created with an eye towards social media, being dynamic and exciting, while showcasing a high standard of technical excellence in the dance style being taught. 
  • Collaborate with Artistic Directors and the Marketing Department to be sure special events with guest faculty are documented and shared on social media.
  • Engage with students to capture content in line with what is trending and popular, in and out of the studios.
  • Use a discerning eye to assist in creating and organizing folders of selects, which will serve as archive and promotional material for the following year.
  • Draft posts and stories, to be reviewed by the Marketing Department, in line with best posting times and the brand guidelines of Joffrey Ballet School.
  • Participate and contribute to brainstorming sessions, as scheduled with the Marketing Department.
  • Ensure ideas are brought to fruition, with content filmed and ready for review within the timeframe discussed.
  • Assist, as needed, with any marketing-specific tasks, as assigned, including reviewing analytics, scheduling e-blasts, creating digital playbills, picking up printed materials, etc.

Time Commitment:

Interns will be scheduled to complete duties at the studio, as well as a theater (as assigned) and any additional locations throughout the city for special events with students. Interns are expected to report for training sessions. The contract period is contingent upon the successful completion of assigned duties, projects and performance appraisals.

Availability

The summer internship will typically follow a 9-5 schedule, Monday through Friday – excluding performances and special events with students. Additional hours will be accounted for and adjusted in the schedule for subsequent days.

The Social Media & Marketing Intern will capture content for all groups and levels at a particular studio and intensive location. When a final performance or a special event with students is scheduled, an intern will assist with capturing BTS content and posting on social media to promote the performance/event. 

Holidays, Breaks and Vacation Periods 

Joffrey Ballet School will not close for any holidays during the summer sessions. 

Meetings & Activities

Social Media & Marketing Interns must participate in all meetings, including weekly check-ins, coordination meetings, and any requested one-on-one meetings with the supervisor.

Performance Weeks

Performance weeks (end-of-intensive weeks) are traditionally a busier time at the studios, with time in the theater for tech and dress rehearsals, as well as performances. Staff members will be expected to travel to the theater to capture content, in addition to time in the studios during designated days. They will not receive a “day-off” during performance weeks.


Compensation:

Salary/Fixed Rate – $250 per week (USD)

Joffrey Ballet School offers Social Media & Marketing internship positions for our summer intensives that run from May 26, 2024 – August 24, 2024. Applicants will be hired locally and will be asked to complete, at least, 2-3 weeks in a particular location.

*All interns must make their own travel arrangements. Flights and housing are not included as a part of the internship.
