Job Description
The Photography & Media Assistant will support the Joffrey Ballet School Marketing Department by capturing, organizing, and maintaining high-quality visual assets across all programs and performances. With a strong focus on photography and video capture in a performing arts environment, this role is responsible for documenting the student experience, performances, rehearsals, classes, and special events to support the School’s marketing initiatives.
Working closely with the Marketing Department, the Photography & Media Assistant will ensure that visual content is captured consistently, organized efficiently, and delivered on schedule for use across digital, print, and archival platforms. Marketing will oversee all content strategy, editing, publishing, and social media management.
Qualifications, Requirements & Competencies
Minimum Qualifications
- Actively pursuing or completed BA/BFA in Photography, Visual Arts, Dance, or a related field
- Passion for the performing arts, especially dance
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience photographing live performances, rehearsals, sporting events, or other fast-paced environments
- Strong understanding of photography composition, lighting, exposure, and movement
- Experience using DSLR or mirrorless camera systems
- Familiarity with Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop for basic photo editing and organization
- Basic understanding of video capture
- Excellent organizational and file management skills
- Ability to work independently while managing multiple assignments
- Strong attention to detail and consistency

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated professionalism and reliability
- Ability to follow established policies, procedures, and creative direction

Responsibilities
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Capture high-quality photography during classes, rehearsals, performances, special events, and promotional activities.
- Capture supporting video footage as requested for marketing campaigns.
- Photograph students, faculty, guest artists, and special events according to the Marketing Department’s shot lists and creative direction.
- Organize, rename, back up, and archive all photo and video assets following Joffrey Ballet School file management standards.
- Upload RAW files and edited selects promptly following each assignment.
- Maintain cameras, lenses, memory cards, batteries, and photography equipment.
- Assist with selecting and preparing images for marketing use.
- Maintain an organized digital asset library.
- Coordinate with departments regarding photography schedules and coverage needs.
- Assist with quality control to ensure visual assets meet Joffrey Ballet School brand standards.
- Assist with occasional administrative photography tasks, including metadata, file organization, and archival support.
- Support the Marketing Department during photo shoots, promotional campaigns, auditions, and special events.
- Assist in training and mentoring Marketing Department work-study students on photography equipment, camera operation, and basic event coverage. Under the supervision of the Marketing Department, help prepare student photographers to provide photography coverage when scheduling conflicts or simultaneous events require additional support.
This position is responsible for capturing and organizing visual assets. All content strategy, copywriting, publishing, social media management, campaign planning, and final marketing direction are managed by the Marketing Department.
20-25 hours per week with flexible scheduling. Evening and weekend availability is required based on rehearsals, performances, auditions, and special events.
New: Hourly Rate: $20 per hour, commensurate with experience.
