Job Description

The Joffrey Ballet School seeks enthusiastic, hardworking, and passionate individuals to support our nationwide summer intensives through Residence Life, Administrative, Health & Wellness and Marketing roles. This is your chance to gain valuable experience in a creative environment while helping shape the future of aspiring artists.

APPLICATION PROCESS

STEP 1: PREPARATION FOR APPLICATION

Before applying, candidates are encouraged to review the application steps and 2026 Summer Information Packets related to the position(s) they are interested in. This will ensure that applicants have all the information needed to submit a strong application.

Satellite Locations
(Akron, Boulder, Dallas, Detroit, Kennesaw, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami, San Francisco)

STEP 2: APPLICATION

After reviewing all of the information, candidates can submit their application.

STEP 3: INTERVIEW

Candidates who meet the requirements will be invited to a one-on-one meeting on ZOOM.

STEP 4: GROUP INTERVIEW & ADDITIONAL INTERVIEW (for Satellite locations only)

Candidates for the non NYC locations will be selected from the one-on-one meetings to participate in a group meeting.

Candidates should schedule interviews as early as possible.

Since contracts are filled as interviews are completed, applicants should consider that more contract lengths and intensive locations will be available, the earlier they apply.


Qualifications, Requirements & Competencies

Minimum Qualifications

  • Proof of completion or current study in both Dance and Health fields

Preferred Qualifications

  • Education: Currently pursuing or recently graduated with a degree in Public Health, Sports Medicine, Physical Therapy, Dance Science, Kinesiology, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field
  • Additional knowledge in wellness modalities such as Pilates, Yoga, Meditation, Somatic practices, or other related areas
  • Technical Skills: Ability to create and manage multiple spreadsheets effectively. Understanding of HIPAA confidentiality and guidelines to ensure the secure handling of sensitive health information
  • Knowledge of health and wellness principles, including mental health awareness, injury prevention, and stress management
  • First Aid & CPR: Basic Life Support (BLS), CPR, and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
  • Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication skills with the ability to provide compassionate support
  • Organizational Skills: Strong organizational abilities, capable of managing schedules, records, and multitasking
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to respond effectively to health and wellness situations, including emergencies
  • Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team, including students, faculty, staff, and healthcare professionals
  • Compassionate & Empathetic: A genuine interest in supporting students’ physical and emotional health
  • Adaptable: Flexibility to work in a dynamic environment, assisting students in both structured and urgent situations
  • Professionalism: Uphold confidentiality, professional boundaries, and a supportive student environment
  • Familiarity with dancer-specific health concerns, such as injury prevention, conditioning, and recovery, is an advantage

Minimum requirements

  • Significant dance background required; Previous dance experience could include lifelong training, summer intensives, professional training programs, etc
  • 18 or older and permitted to work in the United States
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Work well in a team to effectively build community
  • Demonstrate sound project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects
  • Manage challenging situations
  • Effectively and fairly interpret and apply policies and procedures 
  • Demonstrate sensitivity in all interactions
  • Comply with directions and instructions from supervisors
  • Provide equal and fair treatment for all
  • Must be able to work long hours daily and heavy work weeks

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, and move between multiple locations (e.g., studios, residence halls, health office) throughout the day
  • Must be able to lift and carry items up to 50 lbs, including assisting injured students with lifting or supporting their weight
  • Capable of assisting students in climbing or descending stairs during emergencies
  • Comfortable performing tasks involving bending, reaching, or kneeling as needed
  • Ability to demonstrate stretches, recovery techniques, and strengthening movements to support students
  • Must have the stamina and mobility to respond quickly to urgent situations
  • Ability to move items such as ballet barres, boxes of office supplies/equipment/files, and rolls of Marley between studios)

Responsibilities

Your role will involve supporting students, ensuring their safety, well-being, and smooth transitions during rehearsals and performances. This includes physically assisting students when necessary, moving equipment between studios, and helping to create an encouraging, organized space.

Time Commitment

Availability
The Health & Wellness Internship is a full-time role, scheduled from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday, with required availability to be on-site for student rehearsals and performances. Additional hours will be required for various Health & Wellness meetings and to provide support during emergencies at studios and dormitories.

In addition to regular scheduled hours, interns may be assigned additional projects that require completion outside of duty hours. Interns reside in the residence hall with the students and are expected to assist them as needed, even when not officially on duty. In special situations, interns may be called back from time off to help.

Holidays, Breaks, and Vacation Periods
The Joffrey Ballet School remains operational during federal holidays throughout the summer sessions, including Juneteenth and Independence Day.

While interns will receive designated days off, please note that vacation days are not permitted during the contract period due to the program’s intense schedule.

Meetings & Activities
Interns are required to participate in all meetings, including housing and program orientations, weekly staff meetings, reviews, and one-on-one meetings with their supervisor.

Performance Weeks
Performance weeks are among the most exciting yet busiest times in the studios and residence halls. During this period, interns will assist with overlapping intensives, additional rehearsals, preparations, and working at performances, as well as attending extra activities and necessary meetings. Performances traditionally take place on the last few days of intensives. Some intensives have multiple performances during the program.

The Joffrey Ballet School offers a competitive weekly rate, housing and utilities, and additional benefits like meal plans (at satellite locations), attending ballets and Broadway shows, and subway fare (for NYC).
