Job Description

The Joffrey Ballet School is seeking enthusiastic, hardworking and proactive individuals to fill various Housing & Administrative positions throughout the country for our 2024 summer intensives.

APPLICATION PROCESS

STEP 1: PREPARATION FOR APPLICATION

Candidates must review the application steps, FAQs and 2024 Summer Information Packet for the position that they are applying for.

STEP 2: APPLICATION

After reviewing all of the information candidates can submit their application.

STEP 3: INTERVIEW

Candidates who meet the requirements will be invited to a one-on-one meeting.

STEP 4: GROUP SESSION & SECOND INTERVIEW

Candidates will be selected from the one-on-one meetings to participate in a group meeting. Candidates for Supervisor and Coordinator roles will also be invited to a second interview.

TIMELINE

  • November 27, 2023 → Applications Open
  • November 28, 2023 → Interviews start
  • December 18, 2023 → Group Sessions start

There is no application deadline. Positions are filled as interviews are completed. Applications will close after all positions have been filled.


Qualifications, Requirements & Competencies

Minimum qualifications for all positions

  • High School Diploma or equivalent/GED

Preferred qualifications include

  • Applicants who have obtained or are actively pursuing a BFA or BA degree
  • Residence Life/Child Care Experience
  • Experience in Student Leadership, Higher Education, or Student Affairs
  • Administrative experience
  • Customer Service experience
  • First Aid, CPR or other medical training
  • Management experience for supervisor roles
  • Previous experience working for Joffrey Ballet School or another summer intensive for supervisor roles

Minimum requirements

  • 18 or older and permitted to work in the United States
  • Excellent verbal and written communication 
  • Work well in a team to effectively build community
  • Demonstrate sound project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects
  • Manage challenging situations
  • Effectively and fairly interpret and apply policies and procedures 
  • Demonstrate sensitivity in all interactions
  • Comply with directions and instructions from supervisors
  • Provide equal and fair treatment for all
  • Must be able to work long hours daily and heavy work weeks

Required physical abilities

  • Must be able to physically assist an injured student, which may include lifting and/or supporting their weight (minimum weight lifting requirement: 50 lbs) 
  • Must be able to assist students to climb/descend stairs in an emergency 
  • Must be able to lift metal bed frames, wooden end posts, mattresses, move equipment (such as ballet barres, boxes of office supplies / equipment / files, and rolls of Marley between studios)

Time Commitment:

Availability
The summer internship does not follow a traditional 9 – 5, Monday – Friday schedule. Shifts are scheduled Mondays – Sundays based on the class schedule at the studios and 24/7 duty shifts at the dorm. Interns should be prepared to work morning, afternoon or evening shifts any day of the week. 

Holidays, Breaks and Vacation Periods
Joffrey Ballet School will be operational on all holidays during the summer sessions. Interns will receive days off, but will not be able to take vacation days during their contract.

Meetings & Activities
Interns must participate in all meetings: orientations, weekly staff meetings, reviews and one-on-one meetings with the supervisor. Interns will also be assigned to escort and chaperone dancers.

Performance weeks
Performance weeks (end-of-intensive weeks) are traditionally a busier time at the studios and residence halls. This time includes overlapping intensives, extra rehearsals, preparation for performances all while completing the weekly check-in/out days, extra activities and meetings. Staff members will not receive a “day-off” during performance weeks.
