A Professional Commissioning Opportunity Designed to Elevate New Choreographic Voices and Shape the Future of Concert Dance
New York, NY – June 2, 2026 –The Joffrey Concert Group and the Joffrey Ballet Center are proud to announce the launch of the 5th Season of the Creative Movers Choreographic Initiative (CMCI), culminating in the premiere of new works as part of the Company’s February 2027 New York City performance season, In My Art.
Now entering its fifth season, CMCI continues to serve as a powerful platform for discovering and championing the next generation of dance makers. Since its inception, the initiative has provided emerging choreographers with the rare opportunity to create original works on a professional company while receiving the resources, mentorship, and artistic support necessary to develop their creative voices.
Two choreographers from New York City and the surrounding Tri-State area will be selected to create world premiere works for the 14-member Joffrey Concert Group. Through an intensive creative residency, selected artists will collaborate closely with the company, exploring new ideas and pushing the boundaries of contemporary dance and contemporary ballet.
More than a commissioning opportunity, CMCI represents Joffrey Concert Group’s ongoing commitment to artistic innovation, creative risk-taking, and the cultivation of future leaders in choreography. By investing directly in emerging artists, the initiative helps shape the future landscape of concert dance while providing audiences with the opportunity to experience bold new voices and original works on the New York stage.
Selected choreographers will receive:
- A $2,500 commissioning stipend
- Up to 40 hours of rehearsal time over a four-week creative process
- Access to the professional dancers of Joffrey Concert Group
