What is the

Trainee Program

What exactly is our year-round Trainee Program, and why is it one of the most effective pathways for aspiring dancers pursuing a professional career?

The Joffrey Ballet School’s year-round Trainee Program is a pre-professional training experience designed to develop the whole-artist. Rooted in our educational philosophy, dancers are guided not only in technical mastery, but in cultivating artistry, adaptability, and a deep understanding of themselves as performers.

Design Your Path

Students train in either Ballet or Jazz & Contemporary, with a curriculum that reflects the evolving demands of today’s dance industry. While many programs focus on a single discipline, Joffrey emphasizes versatility, preparing dancers to move fluidly between concert and commercial spaces with confidence and clarity.

At the core of the experience is a commitment to whole-artist development, where technical excellence, creative exploration, and personal growth are interconnected.

Grounded in our core values of Community, Artistry, Resilience and Excellence (CARE), our Trainees are supported within a diverse and collaborative environment that challenges them to grow with intention, integrity, and purpose.

This is more than training, it is a foundation for a sustainable and meaningful career in dance.

Our goal is to create a highly employable dancer. Dancers are here to embrace a future in dance, and we are here to help guide them on a successful career path.

Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree

High School Graduates

Joffrey has entered into a very exciting partnership and we are now able to offer our students the ability to receive a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from New Jersey City University (NJCU) through a joint program.

Dancers can receive the exceptional training that the Joffrey Ballet School is known for and at the same time work towards a college degree. This is an amazing opportunity for any dancer. A college degree opens up so many doors and gives dancers an advantage not only in their dance career, but after that career is done.

What is unique about this program?

The Joffrey BFA with NJCU is a program that allows you to spend your time in the studio. Your studies are focused on training. You are able to participate in classes such as pas de deux, variations and contemporary ballet, in our Ballet Division, and musical theater, hip hop and street jazz, in our Jazz & Contemporary Division, all four years of your training. In many programs these course offerings, which are important for your professional development, are only offered for limited semesters.
