There will be a virtual orientation for students and parents and an in-person orientation for students only on the first day of classes.

Classes are offered Monday – Friday. Dancers can register for one, two, or three weeks. 

All students attending the last week (July 21 – July 25) will participate in a performance on Friday, July 25, 2025.

Schedules will be posted on the website, and group assignments will be emailed no later than Monday June 30, 2025.

Joffrey Ballet School is committed to providing an inclusive environment for all students. The dance attire listed below is required to participate in technique classes. Warm-up attire may be worn at the beginning of class, but must be form-fitting and removed 10 minutes into the class or per the instructor’s request, whichever comes first. Please refrain from wearing dangling jewelry in technique classes or rehearsals for your safety. Short fingernails are also recommended. If you have long hair, please secure it away from your face and neck so it does not interfere with your momentum, peripheral vision, or balance and is not disruptive to your technique.

Class Attire

*Please note that colored leotards and class attire are welcome on Fridays.

• Ballet:
  • Option 1: 
    • Leotards: Black.
    • Tights: Flesh-tone or pink tights worn underneath leotards and shoes.
    • Shoes: Flesh-tone or pink ballet slippers with elastics.
    • Hair: Pulled back neatly in a bun or french twist. No ponytails. 
  • Option 2: 
    • Shirt: White or black form-fitting t-shirt.
    • Tights, Socks and Shoes: Black tights with matching socks and shoes, or white socks with matching socks and shoes.
    • Belts: Dance belt, and elastic belt for tights.
  • Option 3: Please mix and match as you feel is comfortable and productive.
• Conditioning, Pilates & Yoga: 
  • Form-fitting clothes. Layers encouraged.
• Hip Hop & Street Jazz: 
  • Clothing: Baggy clothes that reflect your personal style.
  • Shoes: 
    • Hip Hop: Clean sneakers (shoes are required and should not be used outdoors).
    • Street Jazz: Bare feet, jazz shoes, or sneakers (as determined by the instructor).
  • Jazz: 
    • Form-fitting dance attire. Jazz shoes.
• Modern: 
  • Form-fitting black dance attire (including black full-length tights or leggings). Bare feet (no socks allowed).
• Pointe & Variations:
  • The same as ballet, but skirts are allowed.
  • Pointe shoes if applicable.
• Rehearsals: 
  • Style appropriate. The instructor may decide.

Performance Attire

Performance attire will be determined by the choreographers, and dancers will be notified during their first rehearsal. Choreographers may request that dancers bring clothing items in specific colors and will assist in assembling the final outfits. No extra purchases will be required.

The intensive will culminate in a production on Friday, July 25, 2025. More information about the performance and tickets will be announced closer to the intensive.

No parents, guardians, or visitors are allowed to be in the building. All students must be dropped off outside, in front of the building entrance.

A completed physical or physician’s note from within the last 12 months is required and should be completed before a dancer begins their selected intensive. If you have a completed physical examination for your dancer from within the last calendar year, you can substitute it in place of the Doctor’s note. The letter must state that the dancer is healthy and physically able to participate in the summer program. This form will be submitted at the student’s program orientation. The Administrative team consists of Summer Coordinators and a group of Administrative Assistants who work with the Artistic Director at the studios. The team facilitates daily operations and handles crises or emergencies should they arise.

All of our summer interns take part in a robust selection process that includes a formal application, one-on-one interviews, group evaluations and background checks. Most of our interns are currently attending university or have graduated. All candidates must have a dance background or share an appreciation for performing arts.

Housing is available for students 12 years and older. Students must be 12 or older during the intensive. Students turning 12 after July 26 will not be eligible to stay at the dorm.

The Residence Hall is located on the Texas Woman’s University Campus. Our live-in Housing staff are available to students and parents 24 hours a day and assist by providing support and guidance at the dorm and studio. Students are escorted to and from the studio.

Very Important: Texas Woman’s University reserves the right to move the Joffrey Ballet School Dallas summer intensive housing students to a different dorm on their campus. Joffrey Ballet School will update the website and materials if the dorm location changes.

CHECK IN
Housing check-ins are on Sundays from 12:00 pm – 4:00 pm.

CHECK OUT
Students must check out of the dorm before they leave for classes on the Friday of their last week.

Joffrey will provide storage for students who would like to pick up their belongings after classes. All belongings must be picked up on Friday. Housing students are required to schedule a check out time and will be required to move out during that time. Dancers staying at the dorm for multiple weeks do not have to check out during the weekends.

Joffrey Housing staff will provide an escort to/from the dorm on a sign-up basis for students 14+. Students under 14 will be accompanied by a Joffrey staff member at all times. This includes daily trips to/from the assigned studio. The students will have scheduled meeting times each morning to meet to travel together to the studios. They will also have a scheduled travel group to return to the housing locations for evening check in.

Students may request roommates under the following conditions: Roommates must reside in housing for the same period of time and must attend the same intensive. Roommate Requests are $100 per dancer. Please note that although we will make every effort to accommodate requests, it might not always be possible.If we are unable to honor a request, the resident will receive a credit towards their tuition.

The Meal Plan is required for dancers staying in housing. 

Sundays – Saturdays: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Meals will be served in a dining hall on campus. Students will receive their first meal on Sunday evening after they check and the last meal on Friday morning before they check out.

• Cleaning supplies: Disinfectant/sanitizing/cleaning products, wipes, paper towels, broom, trash bags, laundry detergent, etc.
• Bedding: Twin XL sheets, blankets, pillows, pillowcases, mattress toppers, mattress pad, etc.
• Bathroom essentials and toiletries. JBS does not provide toilet paper.
• Electronics: laptops, tablets, chargers, etc. JBS does not provide cable.
• Storage: Hangers, hanging/floor shoe rack, storage containers, tupperware, etc.
• Cell Phone (Required): All housing students are required to have a phone with a United States phone number. International students may choose to purchase a “pay as you go” package or turn on their roaming feature.

The following items are prohibited and will result in confiscation and/or infractions/fines.

• Candles, incense and anything that produces a flame/spark.
• Electric or battery operated string lights.
• Toaster ovens, toasters, panini and sandwich makers. 
• Space Heaters.
• Halogen lights.
• Washing machine or dryer.
• Pets.
• Alcohol, drugs, tobacco, eCigarettes, Juuls, Hookah pipes, bongs and illegal substances of any nature, or drug and alcohol paraphernalia.

Joffrey Ballet School does not offer Airport Transportation for this intensive.

The Residence Life Department team consists of a group of live-in Resident Advisors (RAs) who rotate duty shifts. The RA on duty can be reached 24/7. The team facilitates daily operations and handles crises or emergencies should they arise. RAs are also available to take students (17 and younger) to the doctor, conduct rounds to ensure health and safety. Our team meets with students to conduct mediations, conflict resolution meetings, friendship introductions and any other situation that students need assistance with.
