Meg Paul Appointed Dean of the Joffrey Ballet School

New York, NY – Jun 17, 2025 – The Joffrey Ballet School in New York City is honored to announce that Meg Paul has been appointed Dean of the Joffrey Ballet School, joining the School’s leadership team in a role that will shape the artistic vision and evolution of the institution.

As Dean, Paul will lead the School’s artistic team, oversee programming, and support the School’s Artistic Directors across all divisions, championing both innovation and educational excellence.

“Meg’s unique combination of artistic excellence, educational leadership, and deep-rooted history with the Joffrey Ballet School makes her exceptionally qualified for this role,” said Frank Lee Merwin, Executive Director of the Joffrey Ballet School. “We are thrilled to welcome her to our leadership team.”

With over four decades of experience in the performing arts, Paul brings a rich tapestry of skills and a remarkable professional history to the role. She is an internationally acclaimed artist, educator, and leader whose influence spans performance, choreography, teaching, directing, and arts administration. A former principal dancer with The Joffrey Ballet and Complexions Contemporary Ballet, Paul has performed works by historic choreographers including Gerald Arpino, Robert Joffrey, Twyla Tharp, Dwight Rhoden, George Balanchine, William Forsythe, Alonzo King, and more.

Paul’s extensive resume also includes performing lead roles in Tharp’s Movin’ Out on Broadway, serving as Associate Artistic Director at Complexions Contemporary Ballet, directing the dance program at Wayne State University, and co-founding World Arts Inc., where she helped promote globally renowned dance companies.

“This appointment feels like a full-circle moment—both surreal and humbling,” said Paul. “My first experiences with the Joffrey Ballet School began at age 14, when I received a scholarship to attend the summer intensive in New York City. That experience set me on a path that ultimately led me to join The Joffrey Ballet.”

“To be named Dean of the School where my artistic journey began is an extraordinary honor,” Paul continued. “I look forward to collaborating with the leadership, faculty, and students to uphold the legacy of Robert Joffrey and Gerald Arpino, and to help shape the next generation of artists through innovation, excellence, and inclusivity.”

We invite our entire community to join us in warmly welcoming Meg Paul to her new role as Dean. Her appointment marks a powerful and exciting new chapter in the Joffrey Ballet School’s storied legacy.
