Digital Auditions
Video Submission RequirementsAudition submissions should begin with a short, technical demonstration of barre and center work. Videos should be recent and include the following:
- Barre exercises, including plié, tendu, rond de jambe, passé and adagio with développé en croix.
- Center work, including adagio, pirouettes, petite and grand allégro.
Exercises can be short, but with enough repetition that a dancer can be seen clearly and thoroughly. Please do not exceed 8 minutes in length for this section.
Dancers also need to include a classical variation (en pointe for female-identifying dancers), not to exceed two minutes in length. If applying for a summer intensive, a combination en pointe in center is sufficient, if a dancer does not have a classical variation prepared.
Audition submissions should include a recent contemporary, jazz, or modern solo, performed on-stage or in the studio. The solo should not exceed three minutes.
Footage of ballet training, at barre and center, is highly encouraged for summer intensives and mandatory for year-round Trainee applicants. This should include:
- Barre exercises, including plié, tendu, rond de jambe, and adagio with développé en croix.
- Center, including adagio, pirouettes, and grand allégro.
Any footage showcasing a dancer’s improvisation is welcome. It should be two minutes or less in length.
Audition submissions should begin with the performer stating their name, age, where they’re from, their favorite Broadway musical, and a fun fact about them.
A dance segment should be included next, at most two minutes. This can be on-stage or in-studio footage showcasing a solo in a musical theater style.
To conclude the submission, include a song, around 32 bars in length. We encourage all students to have the confidence to go for it, even if they do not feel the most comfortable singing. Bring us into your world and connect with the story you are singing about — this, in turn, allows us to connect to you as a performer!
If a performer does not have a prepared song, they can sing the national anthem or their favorite Disney tune.
Audition submissions should include a tap solo, performed on-stage or in the studio. The solo should not exceed three minutes.
Footage should emphasize accuracy and cleanliness of sound and step. Complex, syncopated rhythms, along with a clear understanding of transferring weight should be showcased. It should also include elements such as flaps, shuffles, flap ball-change, cramp rolls, wings, pull backs, a time step, and rhythm turns.
Younger dancers may modify the content listed here to fit their level of training.
Audition submissions should include a hip hop solo, performed on-stage or in the studio. The solo should not exceed three minutes.
Any footage showcasing a dancer’s freestyle is welcome. It should be two minutes or less in length.
