The Pre-Professional Contemporary Summer Intensive at the Joffrey Ballet School bridges the legacy of historical modern dance techniques with the innovation and diversity of today’s contemporary movement. Designed for the advanced and aspiring professional dancer as a training program and also as a pre-season dance preparation, the program immerses dancers in a rigorous and holistic training experience that refines technique, deepens artistry, and cultivates creative expression.
Throughout the two-week program, dancers train with esteemed faculty and renowned choreographers, exploring a range of styles that prepare them to seamlessly transition back into their academic programs or professional company work. Complementing the intensive technical curriculum are classes in yoga, Pilates, and strength conditioning—ensuring a balanced approach to physical readiness, injury prevention, and overall well-being.
This immersive program not only hones precision and performance quality but also empowers each artist to find their unique voice within the evolving language of contemporary dance.

If your Broadway dreams include improving and refining your tap skills, the NYC Tap intensive is the place for you! Our program has been curated to connect the past to the present and delve into the future of this art form. Classes include tap fundamentals and historic forms, contemporary techniques, and the cutting-edge new styles. Daily classes are designed to perfect tap technique, and expand the student’s knowledge of tap repertoire. A tap improvisation class will encourage students to experiment with their own movement.
The NYC Tap intensive is designed to give the serious tap student the full picture of what tap was and has evolved into in the 21st century.

Joffrey Ballet School has partnered with Shake the Ground, The Ultimate Dance Competition, to present a three-week Hip Hop Dance Intensive in New York City. Artistic Directors Lissette and David Lucas are bringing together the most sought-after instructors and choreographers for an unforgettable summer of hip hop at the Joffrey Ballet School!
Each day will consist of four classes, where dancers will study a variety of styles including Commercial Dance, Breaking, House, Locking, Jazz/Funk, Freestyle, and more!
Dancers will participate in dance battles, music videos, and more! Classes will conclude with rehearsals for a new and exciting performance opportunity each week.

Experience the energy of Broadway at the NYC Musical Theater Summer Intensive led by Artistic Directors Maximilien Baud and Matthew Prescott! Immerse yourself in the vibrant world of musical theater through an inspiring blend of dance, voice, and acting training in the heart of New York City. Guided by acclaimed industry professionals, this dynamic program celebrates the artistry, discipline, and creativity that define the spirit of Broadway.
Broadway Experience Track
Week 1 – Week 5 (June 8, 2026 – July 10, 2026)
- Students may register for any number of weeks
Step into the spotlight with the Broadway Experience Track, where performers immerse themselves in the world of musical theater. The dynamic curriculum includes classes in ballet, musical theater jazz, acting, voice, tap, musical theater repertory, and audition preparation.
Performance studies classes will also offer students the rare opportunity to collaborate directly with a current Broadway show. Under the guidance of seasoned Broadway professionals, students will perform in original production numbers inspired by productions currently lighting up Broadway. Each week, students will attend their assigned Broadway show as a group and present an informal performance at the Theresa Lang Theater at Marymount Manhattan College.
During Week 5, focus shifts to preparations for Joffrey Musical Theater’s Got Talent—a thrilling showcase featuring a live band, Broadway guest artists, and original numbers created specifically for the students. This capstone week also includes a masterclass with a current Broadway performer and tickets to see their show live in New York City.
Pre-Professional Track
Session 1: Week 2 – Week 3 (June 15 – June 26) AND/OR Session 2: Week 4 – Week 5 (June 29 – July 10)

The Pre-Professional Track is an elite program designed for advanced students (ages 14+) who aspire to a professional career on Broadway. This invitation-only program provides a deepened level of artistic training through focused classes, master workshops, private vocal lessons, personalized mentorship, and exclusive performance opportunities led by Broadway professionals.
While all NYC Musical Theater Summer Intensive participants perform in Joffrey Musical Theater’s Got Talent, only Pre-Professional Track students registered for Week 4 – 5 will have the chance to compete for the title. This program is ideal for serious young artists committed to refining their craft and taking the next step toward a professional career in musical theater.

The New York City Pre-Professional Ballet Intensive is a program designed for the advanced student preparing for a career in ballet.
Students will be led by Era Jouravlev, the Artistic Director of the year-round New York City Ballet Trainee Program, refining their technique and expanding their artistry as performers.
Together with the Joffrey Ballet School faculty, dancers will receive instruction and mentoring to guide their journey into life as professionals, ready for any stage across the world. Daily technique and pointe classes will start each morning, while afternoons will focus on classical repertoire and contemporary movement.

Joffrey Ballet School presents the New York City Jazz & Contemporary Intensive: SPECTRUM!
SPECTRUM bridges the worlds of concert and commercial dance, preparing dancers to enter the industry, in any capacity, with versatility and adaptability. Train with a dynamic collection of teaching artists, directors, and choreographers, whose expertise spans every facet of the dance industry!
A rigorous and diverse schedule will challenge techniques, reimagine artistic boundaries, and open the possibilities for a student’s future in dance. The intensive culminates in a fully-produced stage performance at the highly-regarded dance theater venue, Symphony Space. Students who register to participate in the performance on Friday, August 7, 2026 must attend at least the last two weeks (July 27 – August 7) of the intensive.

Joffrey Ballet School’s NYC Ballet Summer Intensive stands as our premier flagship Ballet Intensive in New York City, led by Artistic Director Era Jouravlev and Associate Artistic Director Stacy Caddell, who also lead our year round Ballet Trainee Program. This Ballet Intensive captures the foundation that built the Joffrey Ballet School, developing young classical dancers into expressive, versatile, and professionally prepared artists.
Designed for students ages 8 to 25 who are seeking a complete and rigorous ballet education, the program builds a strong foundation through morning classes in ballet technique, pointe, variations, and partnering. Afternoons broaden each dancer’s artistry with a diverse range of styles including modern, classical and contemporary ballet, contemporary dance, jazz, world dance, kinetics, injury prevention and more.
Students may register for the non performance or performance track. The performance track culminates in a fully produced theater performance after a three week rehearsal process that guides dancers from studio to stage. Participants will perform classical and contemporary works at a renowned New York City theater on Friday, July 17, 2026. To join the performance track, dancers must attend the final three weeks of the intensive, June 29 through July 17.
Throughout the program, dancers train directly with our year round Joffrey Ballet School faculty, renowned guest instructors, and working choreographers whose experience and mentorship elevate each dancer’s technique, artistry, and confidence to the next level.
