Donna Salgado

Donna Salgado is a New York City based professional dance artist, teacher and choreographer. When her family relocated to Salisbury, MD during her tween years, she became engrossed in her classical ballet studies, training under Tatjana Akinfieva-Smith and Elena Manakhova. She soon joined the Eastern Shore Ballet Theatre where she performed in many of the classics.
She furthered her education under scholarship and earned a BFA in Dance Performance from Towson University and a MFA in Dance Performance and Teaching from Purchase College, SUNY. She has studied in intensive programs with American Ballet Theatre, Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet, Paul Taylor Dance Company, and for 3 summers as a member of the residential staff for the New York State Summer School of the Arts in collaboration with the New York City Ballet. She reveled as a participant in intimate workshops studying the improvisational methodologies of William Forsythe and Alonzo King.
Through her performance opportunities with SUNY Purchase, TU Dance Company, the Baltimore Ballet, the ad Hoc Ballet, the Connecticut Ballet, the Some Dance Company, and the Eglevsky Ballet, she has performed in a vast variety of choreographies. Her repertoire ranges from the work of George Balanchine to Luca Veggetti to Edwaard Liang. She also performed in acclaimed artist Jen Denike’s installation, Scrying. Her modeling background contributed to commercial dance opportunities in Moncler’s presentation for New York Fashion Week 2011, Thom Brown NYFW 2012, and Ted Gibson’s mainstage spectacle for the International Beauty Show Expo 2011.
She is currently a faculty member at the Joffrey Ballet School and the School at STEPS on Broadway.
She has taught for the Children’s Dance Division at Towson University, Non-Majors Ballet at Purchase College, and Ballet1 for the Ballet Hispanico School in New York. Her passion for dance has also lead to modeling for Bodywrappers Dancewear and Dane Shitagi’s New York City Ballerina Project, judging dance competitions, writing for Dancer Magazine, and earning a Pilates certification.
In 2010, Donna Salgado founded her own dance company: CONTINUUM Contemporary/Ballet. CONTINUUM is a company of classically-trained dancers with contemporary artistic voices. Their mission is to “Create work in the Concert Dance Spectrum.” She has presented her work at the STEPS on Broadway Faculty Choreography Showcase, the Latin Choreographer’s Dance Festival, Dance Teacher Summit, DanceNOW’s RAW Festival, Brooklyn Ballet’s First Look Choreographic Workshop, Kat Wildish’s Performing in New York Showcase, 92nd Street Y’s Fridays at Noon, and the 2011 and 2012 Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festivals.
