“One of the most imaginative tap choreographers working today” (The New Yorker), Michelle Dorrance and her tap dream team arrive just in time for the holidays with a three-week run of a world premiere by Michelle Dorrance, Hannah Heller, and Josette Wiggan-Freund, set to Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn’s sublime interpretation of Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker.
Rounding out the program, the first week features the New York premiere of All Good Things Come to an End, a wild, satirical ride through tableaux ranging from “Cane and Able” to “The Myth of the American Dream.” Set to the iconic music of Fats Waller, Dorrance is joined onstage with her collaborators Heller, Wiggan-Freund, and Melinda Sullivan. The second week celebrates an expanded version of Nicholas Van Young’s Elastic Time, an excerpt from Dorrance and Young’s experimental, site-specific work Elemental. The company’s final week showcases three revived works: Harlequin & Pantalone, choreographed and performed by guest artist Bill Irwin featuring the captivating Warren Craft; as well as Dorrance and Irwin’s playful Lessons in Tradition featuring musician Kate Davis; and Dorrance’s Basses Loaded, which deftly weaves a quartet of tap dancers amidst a quartet of bass players across the stage.
