A Message to Our Dancers
Monday, March 23, 2020 – All Programs Update
Greetings and best wishes to all the parents and students of the Joffrey Ballet School.
During this very trying time in all of our lives, I would like to reassure you and your families that our first and foremost concern is the health, well being, and safety of our students. We take the emergence of the Covid-19 virus very seriously, and we at the Joffrey Ballet School are doing everything we can to protect our students. To date none of our faculty, staff, and students have contracted this virus.
We have implemented on-line classes in every category, and in each division with the same professionalism and exuberance, as if the classes were in person at the Joffrey Ballet School! We encourage our students to partake of these classes, as it not only enhances their craft but also gives one a sense of well being and accomplishment.
We are hopeful that this is short lived, and our classes will resume once again at the school with the same enthusiasm, and energy as it has always been.
Let’s all look forward to brighter days when we can walk in Greenwich Village and enter the beloved Joffrey Ballet School once again!
Friday, March 19, 2020 – Summer Programs
The Joffrey Ballet School is dedicated to the health and safety of all students. Joffrey is closely monitoring the situation in all of the localities in which we hold our summer programs. We will follow instructions from the national and relevant local government health agencies, including considering any travel restrictions and school closures as we make operational decisions.
While taking into account the many factors involved, our organization is remaining optimistic and is progressing with our plans for a summer filled with dance.
Based on all current information and advisement from local health agencies there are no current plans to cancel or reschedule any Joffrey summer programs.
We do partner with outside organizations (university locations and private schools) to host our summer intensives. Should there be any developments with those organizations, students will be updated as soon as they are made available to us.
Students currently enrolled in our summer programs will receive updates directly from the Artistic Director of their program via email.
In an effort to accommodate the evolving situation, enrollment may be moved to any 2020 program that is included in the dancer’s acceptance letter. Please contact us to amend your registration.
This is an unprecedented circumstance, but our school professionals are always thinking about the various ways our students might be impacted by events as they unfold. Please know that they are at the forefront of our school-level thinking, our decision-making, and our preparations for summer.
We look forward to working with you to get through this difficult time together.

Monday, March 9, 2020 –
At Joffrey we are a FAMILY run business and we care about YOUR FAMILY. We treat every child as one of our own. We have been in business since 1952 and have weathered, flus, SARs, measles, mumps, etc. and have NEVER had an outbreak. All of our wonderful dancers have ALWAYS been safe and healthy.
Kids and adults under the age of 60 have little to fear from this current virus which is very similar to the flu. Panic has struck the heart of the country and the world over a virus similar to the flu. We at Joffrey take every precaution each and every year to keep your children safe and healthy.
We wipe down the floors, barres, mirrors, door knobs and surfaces in general, after each class with medical grade sanitizer and have a superb track record for the last 68 years. Dancers are also not allowed to attend class sick and are sent home when showing symptoms of being ill.
My granddaughter will be attending numerous Joffrey programs for one week across the country to demonstrate the safety and wellness of each program.
Remember, Keep Calm and Dance On for the best summers of your life. God Bless and we look forward to seeing you this summer.
