Dress Code
- For Women –
You may wear tights and a leotard. You also may choose to wear a T-shirt/tank/exercise-top, jazz pants or exercise pants in addition to or instead of tights and a leotard. Please be aware that there may be some jumping in these ballet classes so please wear something you will feel comfortable doing that in, such as a sports bra or athletic top. Please no baggy clothes, shorts, or excessive jewelry (for safety reasons). The key is to choose something that you feel comfortable moving in. Also, Ballet slippers are required for ballet classes. Ballet slippers come in a variety of styles and materials. You may choose canvas or leather, split soled or full soled. This is up to your personal preference.
- For Men –
You may wear a T-shirt/exercise top, jazz pants or exercise pants. You may additionally consider wearing a dance belt for additional support while dancing. This is similar to a jock strap that is commonly worn in sports activities – but is made specifically for dancing. Please no baggy clothes, shorts, or excessive jewelry (for safety reasons). The key is to choose something that you feel comfortable moving in. Also, Ballet slippers are required for ballet classes. Ballet slippers come in a variety of styles and materials. You may choose canvas or leather, split soled or full soled. This is up to your personal preference.
- Hair –
If you have long hair, please secure it back, preferably in a bun. Please secure back any bangs or loose hair with bobby pins, hair clips, and hair spray. This will enhance your ability to use your head correctly while dancing, and will ensure your eye safety. If your hair is long, but not long enough to fit into a bun, please secure back, away from the face and eyes.
- Additional Notes Regarding Ballet Shoes –
Please try on your ballet shoes before purchasing. When standing, they should allow your toes to lie on the ground, without scrunching. There should not, however, be an excess of material beyond your toes. Please try on your ballet shoes, and have the salesperson assist you in the fitting of your ballet shoes.
