FLORENCE (FIRENZE,ITALY) - AGES 14 - 25 SCHOLARSHIPS DO NOT APPLY TO THIS PROGRAM The Joffrey Ballet School will be offering the opportunity for dancers to experience the high caliber Joffrey training in Florence, Italy, at the beautiful Scuola di Danza Hamlyn. The Joffrey Ballet School Florence Program is designed to develop pre-professional ballet students through rigorous classical ballet training complemented with exposure to different contemporary ballet techniques and contemporary dance techniques. Students will gain invaluable skills in both classical and contemporary ballet, making them versatile dance artists with the advantages of a demanding and diverse dance background. All students will take at least three classes daily. Study such classes as Ballet, Pointe, Contemporary Dance, Repertory and Dance History. Students will have the opportunity to work with Davis Robertson, Artistic Director of the Joffrey Ballet School Performance Company, and other staff from the Joffrey Ballet School. Space in this intensive is very limited. PROGRAM MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS - NO AUDITION REQUIRED THERE IS NO AUDITION REQUIRED FOR THIS PROGRAM. Participation in the Florence program requires two years of training en pointe. Auditioning is optional, but due to limited space in the Florence program, priority will be given to those who attend an audition until March 1, 2013, at which point open spaces will be filled by applicants who did not audition. Students may attend the audition in Florence at the Hamlyn School of Dance or any of our other audition locations.

TUITION – USD 2 WEEK COST: US$ 1,300.00 (Approximately € 975.00 ) Tuition covers the course of instruction only. Students arrange their own transportation to Florence, their own housing, as well as meals during the intensive.
HOUSING Accommodation in Florence for a two week (12 night stay) ranges from € 350 (US$ 450) to € 2000.00 (US$ 2,640.00). The Joffrey Ballet School does not provide housing in Florence. Sudents arrange their own housing. Below is a comprehensive downloadable list of affordable and recommended hotels, hostels, pensione, bed and breakfasts, and even a monastery guest house! When possible we include web site addresses and approximate rates. With few exceptions all listed establishments are within walking distance of the Hamlyn school. While we do not have official agreements with these establishments they have all accommodated students of the school. FACULTY Davis Robertson – Artistic Director of Summer Programs and the Joffrey Ballet School Performing Company Mr. Robertson trained at the Joffrey Ballet School and School of American Ballet before joining the Joffrey Ballet in 1991, where he danced principal roles for over a decade. Mr. Robertson has appeared in film, television and on Broadway, in Save the Last Dance, The Company, Law and Order, Movin’ Out and Dirty Dancing. He is also a member of the ballet company of the Metropolitan Opera. A versatile and prolific choreographer, he has created works for the Joffrey Ballet, Mikhail Baryshnikov, Milwaukee Ballet, Gus Giordano Jazz Dance, and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra among many others. As a director of the Joffrey Ballet School in New York, he is committed to continuing the vision of Robert Joffrey and Gerald Arpino.
Nicole Duffy Nicole Duffy danced with the Joffrey Ballet in New York and Chicago from 1990 to 2000. Raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico, she trained with Ana García and María Carrera at Ballets de San Juan, spent summers at the School of American Ballet and Alvin Ailey School, and completed her training at the Joffrey Ballet School. She performed with Joffrey II and Dennis Wayne Dancers before joining the Joffrey. During Ms. Duffy’s years with the Joffrey she danced the role of Clara in Robert Joffrey’s The Nutcracker, the Little American Girl in Leonide Massine’s Parade, the Willing and Able pas de deux in Gerald Arpino’s Billboards, as well as works by Ashton, Balanchine, Cranko, Jooss, Limón, and Nijinsky, among many others. She also made numerous guest appearances dancing principal roles in classics such as Giselle, Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella. Ms. Duffy recently returned to higher education and graduated summa cum laude with a degree in art history from Columbia University. She is currently on the faculty at the Joffrey Ballet School in New York City, where she teaches ballet and dance history. Ms. Duffy is also a répétiteur for the Arpino/Joffrey foundation.
