Our youngest dancers will explore a different story ballet each week culminating in a Friday family performance. The children will use improvisation, basic movement concepts, and basic principals of classical ballet to recreate the great story ballets. The children will design and construct costumes, masks and scenery to enhance the productions. A light, theme based, snack will be served daily.

*Please note: In observance of Independence Day there will be no class Following in the tradition of the great choreographer George Balanchine, and the legendary composer John Philip Souza, the children will create a star spangled salute to the great American march. The children will munch on flag cookies and sip Liberty punch while designing patriotic tutus, drums, and flags. SESSION D: 7/08 - 7/12 "Nutcracker in July"

OVERVIEW & PERFORMANCE  OVERVIEW
Each week long workshop is designed to encourage creativity through the exploration of a theme using dance, arts, crafts, music and food. The Joffrey Ballet School’s summer dance camps introduce children to an exciting world of creativity, movement, and fun.
PERFORMANCE
There will be an in-studio performance for the parents at the end of each week of camp demonstrating what the students have learned. The performance will be at 11:00am in Studio 6 on the 5th floor.

Step back in time with the Sleeping Beauty and her Court. Children will learn to waltz for the Birthday Ball, turn and leap like the Fairy godmothers, and prance like the Prince's steed. The children will design a tiara fit for Aurora, magic wands befitting a fairy, and dine on Aurora's Birthday Cake, Carabosse Apple Juice and the Lilac Fairy's own flower cookies.
Graceful and gentle Odette will guide the children across an enchanted lake to meet her cygnet court. Feathers galore will decorate tutus and glistening gems will adorn a crown fit for the Queen of the Swans herself. A feast of flower seeds, Black Swan Juice and a Princes banquet will all cap of days of beautiful graceful waltzing.
Let’s all take a July visit to the Land of sweets; the Snow Queens court and into Clara’s dream about dancing with her Nutcracker Prince. The children will paint their own Nutcracker, decorate magical growing Christmas tree and learn the march of the Tin Solider and the Flower Court. Visions of sugarplums will not only dance through their dreams but across their tongues. Drosslemeyer Juice, snowflake cookies and marzipan will all create a feast fit for the Sugar Plum fairy herself.

The children will recreate the “Firebirds” Magical Garden, filled with an orchard of Golden Apples, Learn to move like an Evil Magicians Kashchei, a “Firebird” Enchanted Princesses, and a Prince. The children will make magic feathered wings, monster masks, and a crown fit for an enchanted Princes. Their thirst will be quenched with Magic Apple Juice and their hunger with Enchanted Feather Cake.
