NYC Extra Curricular Activities

We have arranged for after school activities and shows to enhance the experience and complement the training of the students in New York. From Alvin Ailey to American Ballet Theater to Broadway shows, the activities are designed to expose the students to dance as it is performed by professional in venues students have the unique opportunity to experience while in the city.

All activities are chaperoned by Joffrey Staff to and from the event and the dormitories.
If you are a commuter student you will be informed where to meet the group.

At the end of the packet is a description of each of the activities, their cost, and the dates they are offered. The activities will go on sale through the following link "NYC REGISTRATION FOR SUMMER ACTIVITIES" on or before the 8th of May. Tickets are limited and always sell out so please sign up for them as soon as you can.

After you have signed up there is nothing else you need to do. The various student groups are escorted by chaperons to the event where tickets will be distributed.

Alvin Ailey 6/14/13 Friday 8PM *$ 35.00*	For the first time in 13 years, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater performs at Lincoln Center. Swan Lake ABT 6/21/13 Friday 7:30PM 6/22/13 Saturday 2PM *$ 40.00*	Set to Tchaikovsky's glorious score, this romantic tale of love and forgiveness is often considered the world's most beloved ballet. With breathtaking choreography, lavish costumes and visually spectacular sets evoking a lakeside Renaissance court, ABT's production "glides to the forefront of stagings all over the world. The fabled lake of the swans has risen into view, inspiring awe for its mystery and magic." (The Wall Street Journal)
Savion Glover 6/28/13 Friday 8PM *$ 30.00*	Under the direction of Savion Glover, Savion Glover's STePz is another exuberant celebration of tap dance to sound and sound to dance. In this production, Mr. Glover and his ensemble of dancers (TLHS) take tap dance to new heights while fusing traditional music selections of the past with his self-proclaimed tap style and energy of the future. The production demonstrates Mr. Glover's incredible ability to perform the complexities of jazz phrasing—both bass line and melody—as well as wild improvisations—structure and deconstruction—from departure to return. This season, Savion Glover's STePz will again give Joyce audiences the opportunity to experience the versatility and virtuoso of Savion Glover's genius as a tap master.
Sylvia ABT 6/29/13 Saturday 2PM *$ 40.00*	A ravishing fast-paced fantasy set amid verdant forests and majestic temples, Sir Frederick Ashton's mythological love story unites the huntress Sylvia and a lovelorn shepherd with the divine intervention of the deity Eros. The splendid score by Léo Delibes was so admired by Tchaikovsky that he purportedly declared: had he known the music existed at the time, he would never have composed Swan Lake!
The Sleeping Beauty ABT 7/3/13 Wednesday 7:30 PM *$40.00*	The timeless fairy tale of the beautiful Princess Aurora, the evil sorceress Carabosse, over a century of sleep and the awakening kiss of a handsome prince comes to life in this splendid production. Newsies 7/13/13 Saturday 2PM *$ 61.00*	Set in New York City at the turn of the century, Newsies is the rousing tale of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy and leader of a ragged band of teen aged "newsies," who dreams only of a better life far from the hardship of the streets. But when publishing titans Joseph Pulitzer and William Randolph Hearst raise distribution prices at the newsboys’ expense, Jack finds a cause to fight for and rallies newsies from across the city to strike for what’s right.
Beast Speedboat Ride 7/14/13 3PM *$ 35.00*	New York's only jet-powered thrill boat! the Beast leaves all others in its wake as the Captain takes this custom-built 70-foot offshore racing powerboat up to 45mph on a ride down to the Statue of Liberty.
Pilabolus 7/18/13 Thursday 8PM AND 8/2/13 Friday 8PM *$ 30.00*	Pilabolus presents two new and exciting works for the upcoming season. The first premiere is a collaboration with music video director and choreographer Trish Sie, whose most recent work with Pilabolus, Skyscrapers—a quick-change color tango—was one of last summer's hits. The second premiere promises further frontiers as the company collaborates with masters in the field of illusion. The season also features many favorite works from the company's more than forty years of inventive repertory.
