ANNOUNCING A NEW ADULT STETCH CLASS PERFECT FOR DANCERS : LASTICS WITH DONNA FLAGG EVER SATURDAY AT NOON THROUGH THE SUMMER. SEE DESCRIPTION BELOW.
At the Joffrey we have open dance classes for both adults looking to stay in shape and professionals. We also offer yoga for dancers and a general yoga class. The various programs and classes are described below.
The Open Program is for professionals or dance students at an advanced or intermediate level. In the schedule, these classes are marked “open”. Robert Joffrey encouraged those of all dance traditions and schools to come and take class at the Joffrey because he believed that diversity of experience strengthens the dancer, broadens the mind, and opens one up to new ideas and directions. The open program is not offered during the summer except for the adult program. THERE ARE NO OPEN PROGRAM CLASSES DURING THE SUMMER. THE OPEN PROGRAM WILL RESUME AFTER LABOR DAY, SEPTEMBER 2008.
The Adult program is open to anyone and is designed for the adult student who has no formal ballet training or who has studied ballet in the past and wishes to resume training. Emphasis will be on correct placement, body alignment, toning and stretching. Ongoing training in proper ballet techniques reshapes body lines, tones muscles, improves balance, strength, grace, and physical coordination in addition to deepening the appreciation of ballet as an art form. NEW! - LASTICS - Adult stretch with Donna Flagg (ALL LEVELS) Come! Stretch Yourself. If you want a really good stretch that elongates your muscles and strengthens your body at the same time, join us on Saturdays this summer for Lastics at the Joffrey Ballet School. It will be fun, muscles will be supple and you will feel great!The technique itself was created by Donna Flagg and is unique. It is based on the nuance of intricate movements applied to the body so as to generate maximum length in the muscles. We know you will enjoy this full-body stretch that leaves you and your muscles feeling exhilarated and relaxed. This is a one hour stretch class that teaches you how to articulate your body in ways that elongate muscles from end-to-end. You will learn exercises that increase your flexibility over time and improve your body awareness through a special mind/muscle connection. The Adult program is an on-going program. You can drop in anytime to join the class. Please arrive at least 15 minutes earlier to sign-in for the class. You DO NOt need to register ahead of time for the program.
Dress Code for the Adult Program: T-shirt, tights or jazz pants or exercise pants. Nothing too baggy. Absolutely no shorts and no excessive jewelry. Ballet slippers are a must.
We offer four different levels for adults: Adult Basic Beginner Ballet: For student with no formal ballet training. Monday and Wednesday, 7 – 8:30 PM. Sidney Lowenthal
Adult Beginner: This is a perfect class for anyone who has had some ballet training. Tuesday and Thursday, 7 – 8:30 PM. Dena Moss
Adult Intermediate: If you think you are ready for some challenge, this is the class for you. Classes will resume in September.
Adult Advanced Intermediate: Ready to hit that double piroutte? This is a fast-pace adult advanced class. Monday and Wednesday, 7 - 8:30 PM. Andrie Kulyk
