2-day Spring Intensive : APRIL 12 - 13, 2008 2-week Summer Intensive: AUGUST 10 - 23, 2008
After last year huge success, we are very excited to bring to you another Joffrey Jazz and Contemporary Workshop. We thank everybody who came and poured their heart out into creating beautiful dancing. This year we guarantee it will even be more excitement, creativity, passion, learning experience, heart-wrenching choreography, and of course fun fun fun! Audition Requirement The fee for the audition is $30, CASH ONLY ($35 for Videotape audition). Please bring a 5x7 dance picture, and make sure that we can see your face clearly.
If you cannot attend the audition please send a videotape.

1. A short technical demonstration at the barre or center, the content of which will cover plies, tendues, degages (straight with plie from fifth) rond de jambe, passé developpe en croix, grand battements, and balances on one leg. The exercises can be short with enough repetition that the dancer can be seen clearly. This section does not need to be more than 5 minutes in length.
2. A Jazz and Modern solo, one to two minutes in length.

These challenging, exciting and rewarding programs will prepare dancers as working artists in today’s dance world. The faculty of the program consists of instructors from the Joffrey Ballet School as well as up and coming jazz and contemporary modern teachers and choreographers of New York City with their ground breaking styles and techniques . This is an ideal program for dancers who are looking for a versatile and well rounded training program. This program offers different styles of jazz, , innovative and cutting edge contemporary dance techniques, and classical dance instruction. Joffrey Jazz and Contemporary Dance Director Dorrell Martin, former artistic director of Houston Metropolitan Dance Company, has enjoyed a prolific career dancing for companies throughout the United States, Europe and Latin America. The Joffrey Ballet School was founded in 1955 by groundbreaking American ballet dancers and choreographers Robert Joffrey and Gerald Arpino and has since remained at the forefront of classical and progressive dance instruction. Dorrell is thrilled to bring his love for dance and teaching to the Joffrey’s Jazz and Contemporary Dance Program.
East, West and Midwest dance come together for an intense (2) two day workshop. Come be apart of a training workshop taught by teachers from the New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago areas. Instructors have diverse professional backgrounds from Broadway shows to dance companies, National tours, commercials and video credits. This program is guaranteed to challenge the student physically and provide the student with knowledge of today's contemporary dance world. A chance to learn techniques and dance styles of three well known cities for dance, all in one place. A great way to spend your spring break. Classes in ballet, jazz, contemporary modern, body placement, leaps and turns, and musical theatre.
Summer Intensive (Aug. 10 - 23, 2008)
Age: 12 – 22 Audition required
Looking for that summer intensive that is challenging, exciting and fresh?! This summer intensive is the one for you. It is geared towards those dancers trained in ballet, modern, and Jazz. Learn from New York City’s up and coming teachers and choreographers. Two weeks of challenging training, master classes, career planning and a unique showcase will guarantee you the most rewarding summer you ever spent. You will also have a chance to meet with New York agents and contemporary dance company directors. The course of instruction includes: ballet, contemporary modern, jazz, contemporary jazz, partnering (ballroom and modern), musical theatre and choreography. The Joffrey offers housing in the form of home stays (organized through the office) and we can also provide you with an extensive list of short term housing providers and dormitories that have historically housed Joffrey students.
Scholarship
Scholarships are given to those students interested in the two week summer intensive based on merit. You must be committed to attend all classes during the two weeks intensive to be considered for the scholarship. There is no special application to apply. Scholarships will be offered after the audition process to those qualified students.
