Withdrawal and Refund Policy

All withdrawals and requests for refunds should be made in writing at the time of the student’s withdrawal. All withdrawals for medical reasons must be authorized by a doctor. A student who withdraws for medical reasons receives a tuition credit for that portion of the semester not attended to be used as soon as he or she resumes attendance.

First Time Students
Students attending the School for the first time may be entitled to a pro-rata refund. A first-time student is any student who has not attended at least one class in a previous enrollment period, or who received a full refund for previous attendance. Any first-time student who withdraws after attending at least one class and before the conclusion of the enrollment period for which he or she has been charged receives a pro-rata refund of tuition less a $300.00 administrative fee. Under a pro-rata refund, the School will refund an amount proportional to the portion of the enrollment period (up to the 60% point of the enrollment period) that was not completed by the student. The “portion that remains” percentage is calculated on the following formula andmay be rounded down to the nearest 10%: (Hours remaining in enrollment period) / (Total hours in enrollment period)

Continuing Students
All other students who withdraw from the Trainee Program receive refunds according to the following schedule:

  • Withdrawal up to one week before or on the first day of class results in a 100% refund of institutional charges less an administrative fee of the greater of $100.00 or 5% of institutional charges
  • Withdrawal from the first day of class through the first 10% of the enrollment period (i.e., 15 class hours in the Summer semester, 34 class hours in the Fall semester, 41 class hours in the Spring semester) results in a 85% refund of institutional charges less an administrative fee of the greater of $100.00 or 5% of institutional charges.
  • Withdrawal from the first 10% of the enrollment period through the first 25% of the enrollment period (i.e., 16-28 class hours in the Summer Semester, 35-85 class hours in the Fall Semester, 42-103 class hours in the Spring Semester) results in a 45% refund of the institutional charges, less an administrative fee of the greater of $100.00 or 5% of institutional charges.
  • Withdrawal after 25% of the enrollment period, as defined above, results in no refund.
Financial Aid Refunds
Students receiving Financial Aid should also consult the “Refund and Repayment Policy” portion of the Financial Aid section below.

Leaves of Absence
Trainees may request a leave of absence from the program in writing to the Director. Leaves are granted for extended performance commitments, serious injuries requiring lengthy recuperation periods, and for personal or financial difficulties. The duration of each leave of absence will be determined in joint consultation with the Director and the student. Students who fail to re-enroll at the expiration of the leave of absence may be required to re-apply for admission to the Trainee Program. Leaves of absence may not exceed one year.

Transfer of Credits
While credit has been granted at other institutions for study at the Joffrey Ballet School, credit transfers are at the sole discretion of the school to which the credits are to be transferred. Students who wish to apply classes taken at the Joffrey Ballet School towards a program of study at another post-secondary institution must make prior arrangements with that institution.
