Childrens Program

The children’s program at the Joffrey Ballet School offers individualized classes & instruction. The class sizes are kept small and multiple instructors guide our young artists. The classes are structured and discipline is maintained. Those lessons are taken home and positive changes in both the child’s self-esteem and discipline are commonly observed. The syllabus is structured around the understanding of children’s mental and physical developmental stages. Our understanding of the development of body strength, coordination and listening skills are necessary for the proper instruction of classical ballet. The understanding of music is critical to the learning of ballet. The children are introduced to the basic concepts of music’s rhythm, meter, and tempo. The basic foundation of music is based on math. Many studies have shown that children who are exposed to music as part of their education achieve higher math scores and develop skills that help them succeed in life..

Success in life is critical we also understand children must be allowed to be children. We strive to create a nurturing, comfortable, and fun atmosphere in the classroom. The children’s classes are divided into 3 categories: Creative Movement (3 & 4 yrs old), Pre-Ballet (5 – 8 yrs old), Ballet & Intermediate (8 – 15 yrs old).

At the end of each semester the Children’s Division participates in our school performances. They are fun, welcoming and a wonderful experience for both the parents and children.

Junior Trainee

The challenging curriculum, instructed by an eminent staff emphasizes the classical technique. The instruction stresses discipline and musical understanding to create a sense of flow and movement. Each student receives individualized attention to create movement that suggests a love of the art, passion and sense of unity. This style adapts to the changing needs of any type of movement demanded by a company and or choreographer.

All classes are taught to live piano accompaniment. That element enhnces the understanding of the relationship between music and movement. Intrinsic to the teaching of ballet are frequent corrections. Students are guided both verbally and physically by the gentle but disciplined teachers to ensure correct alignment and placement of the body.

Students follow a rigorous after-school training program designed to increase technical skills, stamina, and discipline to transition the student into a professional dancer. The Junior Trainees take classes six days a week, two classes per day. Its purpose is to accommodate the full-time student ages 15-18 to complete their academic career while pursuing their love of dance after-school. This rare program promotes a primary education while training students to become professional dancers with numerous performances year round.

School begins September and continues through early June. Parents receive evaluations/report cards on their child's progress theee times a year. The Joffrey training instills motivation, discipline, grace, stamina, physical fitness and an appreciation for the arts, which is carried throughout ones lifetime.

Recent Graduates have gone to have professional careers with the following institutions: Bolshoi Ballet, Joffrey Ballet, San Francisco Ballet, The Royal ballet, American Ballet Theatre, Washington Ballet, National ballet of Canada, Franfurt Ballet, Atlanta Ballet, Royal Canadian ballet, Hermitage Ballet, Houston Ballet, Arizona Ballet, Colorado Ballet and many, many, many more.

Trainee

The Joffrey Ballet School Trainee Program is a hand selected group of talented dancers chosen from the School’s most advanced level. Trainees range in age from 16–19 years of age. The pre-professional program provides experience that eases the dancers’ transition from the classroom to the professional stage. Trainees rehearse and perform classical and contemporary works. The Trainee Program instructs in techniques taught by ballet masters (Insert Faculty Links HERE) and guest artists from around the world. Each year trainees are placed in professional companies world-wide.

Results matter. As with our Junior Trainee program our Trainee program has thrust thousands of dancers into their professional careers.
