Faculty Bios
Artistic Director John Magnus received his dance training at the University of Cape Town Ballet School. He soon joined the Cape Town City Ballet Company performing a wide range of classical ballet roles. In 1980, Mr. Magnus moved to the United States and began working as Ballet Master for Nevada Ballet Theatre. He then moved to New York City and served as Ballet Master for the New Jersey Ballet Company and its school. Concurrently he taught classes for the Metropolitan Opera Ballet. In 1986 he joined the faculty of the Joffrey Ballet School where he has taught for the past twenty years and in 2005 was named Artistic Director. |

Children's Department Director A former soloist for the Joffrey Ballet, Ms Bustillo, performed roles that ranged from the classical repertory to the more contemporary ballets such as Jerome Robbins’ Moves and Gerald Arpino’s Clowns, Incubus, and Ropes. She was also soloist with the London Festival Ballet (now the English National Ballet), the National Ballet of Washington, Ballet de Luis Fuente and Ballets Clasicos y Contemporaneos de Madrid. During her distinguished performing career, she worked with such renowned choreographers as Gerald Arpino, Frederick Franklin, Robert Joffrey, Jerome Robbins, Ben Stevenson, Glen Tetley, and Hector Zaraspe. Ms. Bustillo has organized and directed dance programs at the Nicolas Salmeron Cultural Center in Spain and the University of Dramatic Arts Dance Department in Madrid, Spain in affiliation with Kent University in Canterbury, England. She was Co-Director of the Luis Fuente Estudio de Danza in Madrid, Spain and has taught at numerous institutions in the U.S., including the Joffrey Ballet School, Adelphi University, Connecticut College, Alvin Ailey American Dance Center. Before returning to the Joffrey Ballet School as the Director of the Children’s Department, Ms. Bustillo spent many years as the Artistic Director of the School at Ballet Hispanico. |

Jazz Teacher Now residing in New York City, Martin is soloist for the national touring company “A Few Good Men …. Dancin.” Mr. Martin is also a Faculty member of the Joffrey Ballet School and Dance New Amsterdam. Mr. Martin has performed in musicals such as Aida, Swing, and West Story. He has worked with recording artists such as Emma Bunton, Jennifer Lopez and Pink. He was an artist in residence at Hope University in Holland, Michigan, where he set the musical “Wonderful Town.” Martin has worked with dance companies, and choreographers such as Richard Rivera’s Physual, Arch Dance, Metropolitan Opera and Brian Brooks. He has performed at Jacob’s Pillow, the American Dance Festival, and Dance Theater Workshop. A native Houstonian, Martin is former artistic director of Houston Metropolitan Dance Company in Houston, TX. In 2003, he founded Dorrell Martin Dance Fusion. The summer of 2003, the company made its first international debut performance in Veracruz Mexico. He received Honorable mention for choreography at the World Jazz Congress. He has taught and set works for the Joffrey Ballet’s pre-professional program, University of Louisiana, C.A.D Dance in New York City, Lamar University and dance companies in Texas, New Mexico, and Louisiana. His studies include Paul Taylor, the Ailey School, EDGE Performing Arts in Los Angeles, Steps on Broadway and 2 years at the New York State Summer Intensive with New York City Ballet. He has worked with choreographers such as Kevin Wynn, Fred Benjamin, Liz Imperio of Los Angeles, Randy Duncan and Pattie Obey of Holland. |

From her first studies with her mother in Seattle, Washington, Francesca Corkle knew a career in ballet was all she ever wanted. After finishing High School at the age of 15 Francesca Corkle left Seattle to head for New York City and the Joffrey Ballet School. After five months as an apprentice, she became a member of the company and developed into one of the world’s finest dancers. |

Born and raised in Moscow, Larisa received her classical training and started touring with the world renowned Moiseyev Dance Company when she was 16 years old. In a short time she became a soloist and also received her bachelors degree in choreography at the Russian Academy of Theatrical Art. After almost 10 years of performing with the company, Larisa moved on to choreographing, dancing and teaching masters classes for the Moscow Contemporary Ballet Company and Moscow Dance Theater. While performing around the world Larisa discovered and fell in love with the energy of New York City and it became her new home.

Ms. D’Antuono was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and studied dance with Maria Papporello and E. Virginia Williams who later founded the Boston Ballet. Ms. D’Antuono began her professional career with Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo at the age of 14. Within two years she was performing solo roles in the company’s full repertoire and left shortly after to join the Joffrey Ballet. In 1961 Ms. D’Antuono then joined American Ballet Theater as a soloist. She was promoted to Principal Dancer in 1963. In 20 years as a Principal Dancer with American Ballet Theater she received accolades from public and press alike. “Eleanor D’Antuono has long been one of the glories of American Ballet Theater. She has a style and beauty that are all her own.... Her technique is stunning.” said the New York Times. Her leading roles have included Coppelia, Giselle, Raymonda, The Sleeping Beauty, San Lake, Les Sylphides, Tales of Hoffman and La Fille Mal Gardee. Inspired by her fiery virtuosity and her unique lyricism, many leading choreographers created original roles for Ms. D’Antuono in ballets such as Alvin Ailey’s the River, as well as ex-Joffrey Principal Dennis Nahat’s Brahms Quartet and Elektra, Balladen de Lieder, Kinderzanen, and Lorenzo Monreal’s Romeo and Juliet. Other ballets in Ms. D’Antuono’s repertoire include La Bayadere, Etudes, Jardin Aux Lilax, Paquita, Theme and Variations and the grand pas de deux from Le Corsaire, Diane and Acteon and Don Quixote. |

TaraMarie Perri has an MFA in Dance from NYU Tisch School of the Arts and a BA in Art History from the College of the Holy Cross. She is a Vinyasa Hatha yoga teacher certified through OM Yoga, NYC and is a registered yoga teacher (RYT) with Yoga Alliance. TaraMarie specializes in teaching yoga to dancers. Through her ongoing research, she has developed Yoga for Dancers, a series of anatomically and energetically themed classes incorporating classical yoga into a structure more sensitive to a dancer's technical needs, as well as designed to help treat and prevent injury. TaraMarie provides ongoing yoga therapy in the Tisch Dance Department through group and private sessions. She is on faculty at NYU Tisch Dance, Joffrey Ballet School, Dance New Amsterdam, and East Yoga in New York City. In addition to her work with dancers, TaraMarie teaches yoga to performing artists, athletes and professionals from many walks of life, tailoring yoga programs to suit their specific needs.
Over the last 10 years, TaraMarie has also been teaching ballet, modern dance, movement studies and dance composition in various US and international venues. She was recently invited as Guest Lecturer to the MA Programs in Practice-Based Research and Drama at Queen Mary University and Goldsmiths University in London. While in residence, she developed two workshops: Space, Time and Breath as Performance Allies (2005) and Using Movement as an Educational Tool (2006). TaraMarie is a dancer and costume designer, critically acclaimed in The New Yorker and The Village Voice, among other publications. Ms. D’Anna is a native New Yorker, born and raised in Brooklyn, New York and trained at the Joffrey Ballet School. Among some of her teachers were Meredith Baylis, Jonathan Watts, Dorothy Lister, Francesca Corkle and Jacques Cesbron. Under the direction of Meredith Baylis and Dorothy Lister, Ms. D’Anna also completed a four year teacher training course recognized by the NASD. Ms. D’Anna was a member of Jose Coronado & Dancers and Yung Yung Tsuai & Dancers. After leaving New York, Ms. D’Anna joined the Delta Festival Ballet and was shortly after promoted to soloist. Among some of the ballets she performed were Nutcracker, Sleeping Beauty, Coppelia, Peter and the Wolf and La Fille Mal Gardee. Ms. D’Anna has also taught at Grand Rapids Summer Fest. Ms. D’Anna returned to the Joffrey Ballet School where she has been teaching all levels of ballet from pre-ballet to professional level classes since 1982. In 1996 Ms. D’Anna was named Director of the Children’s Department at the Joffrey Ballet School. |

Ms. Godino studied ballet with Margaret Craske, Valentina Pereslavec and at the Joffrey Ballet School. Ms. Godino has danced with Stadtheater of Lucerne, New York Ballet Theater, Kansas City Ballet, Lotte Goslar’s Pantomime Circus, Joffrey 2, The Metropolitan Opera Ballet and The New York City Opera Ballet. Ms. Godino has served as artistic director at Juneau Dance Unlimited in Alaska. Ms. Godino has also choreographed extensively for the DiCapo Opera, Bronx Opera and The State Opera of New Jersey where she also directed a production of Le Nozze di Figaro. In addition to her dance training, Ms. Godino also has a BA from Empire State University. |

Dena Moss has been a member of the Joffrey Ballet School faculty since 1988, specializing in dance education for the very young child and adult ballet students. She is co-author of The Joffrey Ballet School's Ballet Fit (St. Martin's Press, 1999). She is also an attorney in private practice in New York City. |

Before coming to New York City Ms. Lowenthal taught Ballet at the Bristol School of Ballet in Bristol, Virginia. There she taught beginner - advanced classes as well as ballet and modern classes at Virginia Intermont College. Ms. Lowenthal trained and performed at Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival from 1967-1969. During the off season Ms. Lowenthal attended the University of Utah from 1967-70 where she was a ballet major and performed with Ballet West. In addition she performed in operas in Salt Lake City and Central City, Colorado. Ms. Lowenthal received a BFA from Virginia Intermont College in 1974, where she studied with Constance Hardinge, the director of the program. In Bristol, Ms. Lowenthal performed with the Bristol Concert Ballet Company as a demi-soloist and soloist. In addition, Ms. Lowenthal studied at the Joffrey Ballet School with Meredith Baylis, Basil Thompson, Ann Parsons, and Dorothy Lister. Ms. Lowenthal began teaching at the Joffrey Ballet School in 1976. In addition to her dance career Ms. Lowenthal completed the Master of Arts degree at New York University in 1996 in Teaching English as a Second Language from the School of Education. She received New York State Teacher Certification in 1997 and has been teaching English as a Second Language at the United Nations International School in New York City since 1997. |
